Soooooo….after a hefty amount of disinformation on the side of united airlines I’m stuck in LA. Apparently I am the only one who has found a loophole in the Chinese visa system, and I have the print out and the Chinese embassy’s website pulled up on my phone to prove it. Either way being right isn’t going to beam me up to my plane that is now 600miles across the pacific. Good start.

UP GRADED!!!!!
After fighting with united for the better part of yesterday there was a silver lining. COMPED room at the Westin, COMPED: breakfast,lunch, dinner, COMPED business first up grade. That should make the 15 hours a little more tolerable.

The Shanghai Pudong international airport is massive this is one of 2 terminals and it has to be more than a mile from end to end you cant even see the other end in this photo. Its capacity is 20million people per terminal with plans to build a third terminal in 2015 in order to up its on sight capacity to 80 million….and it was completely empty both times I was there. With only 70 boarding gates (25less than DIA) most passengers are shuttled out to board their flights via runway stairs. I can’t say I’m not happy to be leaving China.

I was having a hard time finding my hotel in Shanghai but then I found a sign.

Sun rise over Shanghai from the 28th floor of the Ray Front hotel. This spot is maybe 4 miles from downtown not easy to find and you have to have a Chinese cell phone number to get wifi passwords so I was flying blind. I had nothing but a map much like the cartoon maps you get at Disney land and the compass on my phone which kept freezing up. Good thing every street sign is written in Chinese and subtitled in English.
